A total of 28,34,571 patients have been treated since inception until January 2026. Other than general OPD, the institute is running a geriatric speciality OPD and Marma Chikitsa OPD also. The infra structure under OPD includes screening areas, patient waiting area, reception and registration area, Initial assessment room, OPD consultation rooms, OPD pharmacy, Child care room and children play area . The auxiliary services like pathology and biochemistry investigations, minor OT, ECG and X-ray are also available in the OPD.\u00a0<\/p><p>The services of consultants specialized in Kaya Chikitsa (General medicine), Panchakarma (Bio purificatory measures), Salyatantra (Surgery &amp; Orthopedics), Shalakya tantra (Ophthalmology &amp; ENT), Prasutitantra &amp; Streeroga (Gync.&amp; Obst.), and Kaumar bhritya (Pediatrics) are presently available in the OPD. OPD pharmacy have an ample stock of various classes of medicines which are distributed free of cost. The screening and follow up of patients recruited in various IMR\/Collaborative projects of the council is also done at the OPD level. The institute has implemented AYUSH Hospital Management Information System (AHMIS) for registration and consultation.<\/p><p>Other than regular OPD services, various awareness classes are also conducted at OPD premises time to time. Some of them include classes on different themes of nutrition as a part of Poshan Maah celebrations, classes on various themes like cancer prevention, World Health Day, blindness prevention, blood donation etc.<\/p><p>The students in various courses conducted by the institute like Certificate Course in Panchakarma Therapy, Panchakarma Technician Course and house surgeons from various Ayurveda colleges across Kerala are also posted in the OPD under consultants as a part of their training program.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-adc0841 e-flex e-con-boxed wpr-particle-no wpr-jarallax-no wpr-parallax-no wpr-sticky-section-no wpr-equal-height-no e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"adc0841\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8260466 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8260466\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-a0d78a376d0b5e00a1591cebefa29e64\"><strong>Inpatient Department (IPD)<\/strong><\/p><p>The IPD, established in <strong>1972-73<\/strong>, presently operates from the <strong>seven-storeyed hospital complex<\/strong> with a <strong>60-bed capacity<\/strong>, including general wards, pay wards, and suite rooms. <strong>24\u00d77 medical, nursing, dietary, and security services<\/strong> are available.<\/p><p>Over the years, IPD care has benefited about <strong>23,718 patients<\/strong>, covering a wide spectrum of ailments \u2014 musculoskeletal, neurological, autoimmune, respiratory, dermatological, reproductive, and metabolic disorders. Care extends across <strong>preventive, curative, rehabilitative, and rejuvenative<\/strong> domains. Committees oversee <strong>dietetics, infection control<\/strong>, and <strong>laundry services<\/strong> to maintain quality standards<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-420354e e-flex e-con-boxed wpr-particle-no wpr-jarallax-no wpr-parallax-no wpr-sticky-section-no wpr-equal-height-no e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"420354e\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4d9a618 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4d9a618\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Panchakarma Department<\/strong><\/p><p>Panchakarma Department is equipped with 13 Panchakarma theatres, where treatments are carried out on shift basis for all in patients. All procedures are carried out by <strong>well-trained Panchakarma therapists<\/strong> under the supervision of experienced physicians, ensuring safety, hygiene, and high-quality care. Panchakarma department offer a wide range of procedures including, Udwartana (coarse powder massage), Abhyanga (oil massage), Snehapana (oral administration of medicated snehas such as ghee\/oil), Swedana (sudation), Vamana (therapeutic emesis), Virechana (therapeutic purgation), Basti (medicated enema), Nasya (medication through nasal route), Shirodhara (therapeutic oil streaming overhead), Shirovasti (therapeutic retention of oil over head region), Dhoomapana (inhalation of smoke), Netra kriya kalpas (treatment for eye diseases), different types of bandages etc. During 2024-25 a total of 28763 procedures were carried out in Panchakarma department. Each plant is accompanied by a <strong>name board<\/strong> presenting its <strong>scientific name, family, and regional (Malayalam) name<\/strong><strong>, <\/strong>along with its <strong>main therapeutic indications<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong> To further promote awareness and foster a cultural connection with nature<strong>, 27 Nakshatra Vrikshas (trees associated with the lunar constellations)<\/strong> are also displayed within the campus, linking traditional beliefs with botanical and Ayurvedic knowledge.<\/p><p>This initiative aims to <strong>create awareness among students, visitors, and the public<\/strong> about the identification and medicinal value of common herbal plants.<\/p><\/figure>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-732a5f7 e-flex e-con-boxed wpr-particle-no wpr-jarallax-no wpr-parallax-no wpr-sticky-section-no wpr-equal-height-no e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"732a5f7\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-747b1ba elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"747b1ba\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Department of Biochemistry and Pathology, NARIP, Cheruthuruthy<\/strong><\/p><p>Biochemistry and Pathology Department provides scientific and technical support to the institute for achieving its goal. The pharmacy was established to ensure a consistent supply of authentic, safe, and effective Ayurvedic medicines for both clinical and research purposes.<\/p><p>Equipped with traditional and modern infrastructure, the pharmacy produces a diverse range of formulations, including <em>Kwatha Choorna<\/em>, <em>Choorna<\/em>, <em>Taila<\/em>, <em>Ghritha<\/em>, and other classical preparations. Each medicine is prepared strictly in accordance with classical Ayurvedic procedures and under rigorous quality control measures. Regular monitoring and adherence to GMP guidelines ensure that every formulation retains its therapeutic potency, purity, and standardization.<\/p><p>The pharmacy caters to the Outpatient (OPD) and Inpatient Department (IPD) of NARIP, ensuring an uninterrupted supply of essential medicines. Initially functioning under one Assistant Director, the unit expanded under various CCRAS-funded projects with the recruitment of Senior Research Fellows and contractual technical staff.<\/p><p>Presently, the unit comprises a team of members, including Research Officers, Research Assistants (Chemistry), Laboratory Technicians, and a Lab Attendant. The team is engaged in standardization, authentication, and quality control of single and compound Ayurvedic drugs through modern analytical approaches.<\/p><p><strong><u>Infrastructure and Instrumentation<\/u><\/strong><\/p><p>The Drug Standardization Unit (DSU)\/ Department of Quality Control Laboratory is well-equipped with state-of-the-art analytical and phytochemical instrumentation, enabling comprehensive evaluation and standardization of Ayurvedic formulations in accordance with the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India (API) and International Council for Harmonisation (ICH) guidelines.<\/p><p>The laboratory achieved National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) accreditation under ISO\/IEC 17025:2017 in the year 2026 for chemical testing of physicochemical parameters.<\/p><p><strong><u>The scope of accreditation includes:<\/u><\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Loss on Drying<\/li><li>Total Ash<\/li><li>Acid-Insoluble Ash<\/li><li>Alcohol-Soluble Extractive<\/li><li>Water-Soluble Extractive<\/li><li>pH (10% Aqueous Solution)<\/li><li>Uniformity of Weight<\/li><\/ul><p>These parameters are evaluated as per API standards for Single Drugs\/Medicinal Plants and their parts, as well as classical Ayurvedic dosage forms such as Kwatha Churnam, Churnam, Vati, and Gulika.<\/p><p>The laboratory is equipped with essential basic and select sophisticated instruments to perform physicochemical and physical testing parameters required for quality control and standardization of Ayurvedic formulations in compliance with API specifications.<\/p><p><strong><u>Major Instruments:<\/u><\/strong><\/p><ul><li>FTIR Spectrophotometer<\/li><li>UV\u2013Visible Spectrophotometer<\/li><li>High-Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC)<\/li><li>High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)<\/li><li>Trinocular and Stereo Microscopes<\/li><li>Rotary Vacuum Evaporators<\/li><li>Stability Chamber<\/li><li>Weighing Balance<\/li><li>Centrifuge<\/li><li>Melting Point Apparatus<\/li><li>Basic analytical and laboratory instruments for Physiochemical analysis of Ayurveda formulations<\/li><\/ul><p>These facilities support the authenticity, purity, and quality assessment of raw drugs and finished formulations before their use in formulation preparation and clinical applications (OPD\/IPD).<\/p><p><strong><u>Core Activities and Research Focus<\/u><\/strong><\/p><p>Since 2011, the Drug Standardization Unit has been actively engaged in:<\/p><ul><li>Standardization of Single Drugs (various plant parts such as roots, leaves, stems, and rhizomes).<\/li><li>Physico-chemical Evaluation of Finished Formulations (<em>Kwatha Churna,<\/em> <em>Churna, Taila, Ghrita, Capsules, Tablets<\/em>).<\/li><li>Chromatographic Fingerprinting (TLC\/HPTLC) and marker-based profiling for quality assurance.<\/li><li>Development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Shelf-life Studies for Ayurvedic formulations.<\/li><li>Phytochemical isolation and characterization of active marker compounds from medicinal plants\/Ayurveda formulations.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong><u>Major Accomplishments and Projects<\/u><\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Initiated standardization work on Amalakyadi Churna, Balacaturbhadrika Churna, Rasna Saptakam, and Jwarahara Churna (2011\u20132012).<\/li><li>Analyzed 176 samples of 53 single drugs and 48 samples of 14 formulations (2012\u20132013).<\/li><li>Completed physico-chemical analysis and API standardization of <em>Neem Oil<\/em> \u0914\u0930 <em>Nimbatiktam powder\/capsule<\/em>.<\/li><li>Developed and prepared Nimbatiktam 200 mg Capsules under the CCRAS Project (2013\u20132019), supplying 3,000 capsules to peripheral institutes and 6,000 capsules to headquarters.<\/li><li>Between 2020\u20132025, analyzed over 1,500 samples covering 30 formulations and Ayush\/herbal drugs for selected quality parameters.<\/li><li>Conducted isolation of marker compounds such as <em>Curcumin, Embelin, Asiaticoside,<\/em> \u0914\u0930 <em>Arjunolic Acid<\/em> from <em>Curcuma longa, Embelia ribes, Centella asiatica,<\/em> \u0914\u0930 <em>Terminalia arjuna<\/em>, respectively.<\/li><li>Maintains a Herbarium Repository of authenticated medicinal plant specimens for research and reference.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong><u>Completed IMR and Collaborative Projects<\/u><\/strong><\/p><ol><li>Isolation of maker compounds of some selected medicinal plants<\/li><li>Preparation of Nimbatiktakam Capsules<\/li><li>QC Analysis and Estimation of Markers in polyherbal formulation \u2018Jwarahara Kwatha Choornam (JKC)\u2019 for the effective treatment of fever<\/li><li>QC Analysis, Estimation of Markers\/PRS &amp;
